Policy landscape and needs: OBSGESSION Seminar

Policy landscape and needs: OBSGESSION Seminar

On 7th October the fifth internal seminar of OBSGESSION took place online. It was focused on a crucial output of the project - the “Policy landscape and needs” deliverable, created by the UNEP-WCMC team.

The document and seminar focused on the actions from the EU BDS 2030 as the key articulation of policy needs and indicators to evaluate monitoring requirements. Policy requirements in this document were identified in alignment with the European Union’s Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 (EU BDS 2030), which acts as the primary framework guiding biodiversity-related policies and legislation across the EU.

The seminar began with a presentation of the policy landscape and needs report by Natasha Ali, head of policy at UNEP-WCMC. This was followed by a short presentation from Elnaz Ninavad from the University of Twente, outlining how this report feeds into further work under work package one, particularly the science policy traceability matrix.

The meeting concluded with an open discussion, during which participants analyzed the presented findings and explored potential improvements and additions to strengthen the future science-policy connection of the project results.

You can watch the full recording of the seminar here, or you can access it in the video section of News&Media

OBSESSION has held four other seminars focused on important aspects of the project, such as the DAM framework, the biodiversity pilots, and others, which are available on the project's YouTube channel.
